About These Images

Armed conflict is probably as old as mankind itself.  However, it was not until the industrial revolution that human competitiveness and technology combined to create terrible new dimensions to the age-old quest to prevail in battle.  The 20th century witnessed the full flowering of this partnership, and the images presented here testify to its fascinating and horrific fruits.

All of  the images here were made with 4"x5" and 8"x10" view cameras on conventional film.  The film was scanned to create digital image files that, after processing, are printed with a professional inkjet printer using archivally stable pigment inks.  My other work may be viewed at www.martin-miller.us.

The war-machine subjects belong to the amazing collections of world-wide ordnance on display at the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Ontario.
